6P Ospreys

STEMFest 2015 - The Years 5 and 6 visited the annual STEMFest at The National Marine Aquarium on Wednesday 16th September. The children were engaged in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths activities; they also had the chance to visit some of the exhibits in the Aquarium. Everyone had a very enjoyable day!

The Year 6 Science unit this term is 'Animals, including Humans' with a focus on the heart and circulation. To bring the first lesson to life, Mr Pike cut up a real pig's heart! Look at the photos to judge the children's reactions!

Year 6 Ospreys enjoyed a visit from a local vicar.

Year 6 enjoyed our Enterprise Week. We had a visitor in class explaining all about his job as a lorry driver, the children enjoyed climbing up into the cab. They also had a go at making up the boxes that he delivers daily. The children then made wallets and purses out of duck tape to sell at the Enterprise Market.

Year 6 enjoyed learning about Russia on our European Day.

Caviar is a well known export from Russia. Caviar comes from the sturgeon and it is actually the eggs of the fish! Real caviar is very expensive so we used herring roe (eggs) instead. Some of us really enjoyed the caviar and asked for seconds but some were less keen! See if you can work out who liked it and who didn't.

We also investigated the Russian alphabet which uses the cyrillic script and has 33 letters! Some of the letters are pronounced differently as well so we think that learning Russian would be quite a challenge!
