WOW Travel Tracker

WOW Travel Tracker

After the success from last year our school has chosen to once again be part of an exciting nationwide challenge to encourage more children and their families to walk to school. WOW – the year-round walk to school challenge is delivered by Living Streets, a UK charity for everyday walking. Their aim is to help as many children as possible experience the benefits walking to school brings.
WOW is a pupil led initiative where children self-report how they get to school every day. If they travel actively (walk, scoot or cycle) twice a week for a month, they are rewarded with a badge. It is that easy!

Starting on Monday 14th September

  • Why are we doing this and what are the benefits?
We saw a large increase in pupils travelling to school by car and resulting drop-off traffic congestion rose. Walking to school helps children feel happier and healthier and they arrive refreshed, fit and ready to learn. More families walking means fewer cars on the road during the school run, helping to reduce congestion and pollution at the school gates.

  • What if you can’t walk to school?
If you live too far away or don’t have time to walk the whole way to school, you can Park and Stride to help your child earn their WOW badge. Park or hop off public transport at least ten minutes from school and walk the rest of the way. More info about Park and Stride and parking ideas will follow.

  • Did you know?

The WOW badges are made using excess yoghurt-pot material previously destined for landfill. They are produced in Cornwall, minimising our carbon footprint, by the same people that make the Blue Peter badges.

We are one of the first schools in Plymouth to launch this exciting venture. With the support of the whole school community, we are sure that it is going to be a great success.
